Within Little Athletics there are a number of levels for officials. By sitting the initial Officials Examination and
passing with a 100% mark, an official will be qualified as a 'D' grade official. This level allows that person
to officiate in events at a centre level for which they are qualified to officiate. To become a 'C' grade
official which will allow that person to officiate at TLAA sanctioned events, the official must request at
centre level to officiate an event at an upcoming state event. The centre will then nominate the person to
Chief an event at a TLAA state event and arrange for a TLAA Board Member or Field Referee to watch
over the site. If the TLAA Board Member or the Field Referee believe the person to be competent in
officiating that event, they will achieve 'C' grade qualifications for that event.
Due to frequent changing rules and policies both at a State and National level, officials qualifications are
only valid for three years, after which time they must sit the exam again.
The Exams
The Tasmanian Little Athletics Association officials examinations are open book. This means that persons
sitting the exam can do it in their own time and with the assistance of multiple resources including; TLAA
Annual Manual, TLAA Officials Guidelines & the TLAA By-Laws. The TLAA Officials Guidelines and By-
Laws can be
downloaded below
with the exam papers and answer sheet.
Once exams are complete, the official answer sheet should be returned to the East Derwent Little
Athletics administration building. Exams will be marked by the Centre Coaching & Education Officer before
being sent to the Tasmanian Little Athletics Association for the issuing of Officials Cards if applicable.
