Athletic Skills Assessment Program

ASAP is a skills assessment system that aims to ensure that all participants are provided with the opportunity to develop confidence and competence in a wide range of general skills and Track and Field events. ASAP is a compulsory program that must be offered by centres to all Under 6 & Under 7 athletes.

ASAP was originally developed by the Little Athletics Association of NSW and has been amended to suit the TLAA requirements. ASAP recognises skill development through the use of five graded achievement levels. ASAP can be conducted for any age group, however, the younger age groups who are just beginning to develop their skills and abilities would benefit the most. ASAP can be used like the Tiny Tots Program for U6-U7 age groups to supplement their Centre Program.

As skills are achieved the participant progresses to the next level. The skills are basic to begin with, but as the participant progresses, the skills become more complex and difficult. Upon completion of each level the participants will be have an award level signed off in their ASAP booklet issued upon registering as an Under 6.

Tiny Tots on Track

Tiny Tots provides a program for three and four year olds (as at the 1st October) as an introduction to Little Athletics. Please note: from 2011/2012 Tiny Tots DO NOT need a sibling to be eligible to register.

East Derwent was instrumental in introducing the Tiny Tots program to the Tasmanian Little Athletics Association. This program is aimed at providing some non competitive, fun activities for the sibling of Little Athletes. The program is designed to improve gross motor skills, social skills and above all self confidence of our up and coming Little Athletes.

“Tiny Tots takes into consideration the developmental stages and requirements of young children.  The program encompasses games and activities that are designed to prepare Tiny Tots for their introduction into Little Athletics in the under 6 age group.”

“The more effectively and comprehensively a child is stimulated during the first 2 to 4 years of life, the greater the number and sophistication of motor skills that child will develop.”
